Porta Sirena is a fine Agriturismo located in Paestum, (the city known for its charming temples in Campania region – southern Italy;  where you can also enjoy a swimming pool surrounded by green and have, then, a refreshing italian aperitivo!

I have been there more than once to enjoy the specialities of the territory and, in particular, the steak of buffalo which is not easy to find here around even if this is the land of buffalo mozzarella (i.e. Campania region).

Even the wine list is intriguing, it is focused on local production areas and, moreover, it also offers different vintages for some of those wines!

Among those I have noticed the notorious and fine red of Campania: Taurasi Riserva by the historical company Mastroberardino which has recovered the indigenous grapes of the inland of this region. So I picked the oldest vintage Porta Sirena restaurant has at the moment: 1996.

The wine had been opened before to make it breath.

3The color is already amazing, still there and only with some light garnet reflections. At the nose is complex with aromas of dark cherry, blueberry candy, tobacco’s leaves, wet ground, ash, dark vegetables. In the mouth is still vibrant, good the freshness as well as the sapidity. Good structure.

It well reflects the character of such a wine and a its territory with impressing longevity, body and complexity.

Maybe it is not as perfectly balanced and armonious as other great vintages such as 1997 and 1999 but I would drink it later on!
