I had good reviews and I can now confirm this is a great winery where I had a very nice tour well balanced with the professionalism of Aaron the Hospitality Supervisor.

This is an historical winery (today own by the Italian family Antinori) the one who won the famous competition in Paris in the 1976 con il Cabernet nowadays known as SLV – Stag’s Leap Vineyard) and which made California famous worldwide. (see the old post on the blog here). Inevitable the book about the competition on the shelfs.

I had the chance to try the chardonnay as well as the 3 important cabernet, the one I preferred is maybe the SLV itself with a very fruity bouquet and a long aroma of figs jam. Interesting also the CASK 23, stronger, more complex and which should last longer than the others.

“Tha competition in Paris has demonstrated that good wines can be produced wherever the right terroir combines the passion”, this is the most important message. Very interesting also the cave where they also organize suggestive events, for example  a private one where guests left their shoes at the entrance to follow the path enlighten only by small candles on the floor. Moreover is also possible to admire the hands’casts of the people who worked here in the winemaking, included the hand’s cast of our Italian friend Cotarella”.

But pay attention, this is STAG’S LEAP WINE CELLAR and not the close winery Stags’ Leap winery that changing some letters creates confusion. And this is wine the original STAG’S LEAP WINE CELLAR specify that on the back of the business cards using the excuse of providing public with “notes of distinction” including the name of the production area which is “Stags Leap District” itself.
