Antonio Mastroberardino .
A piece of history of Italian wine .
One who has reinvented the Campania, our Master.
Without him we could not talk of Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, and so on. We could not even talk about Lacryma Christi of Vesuvio . those are wines known and appreciated all over the world, who have made the Campania famous all over the world.
Antonio Mastroberardino has passed the years of phylloxera, the war and methanol phenomena with determination, nothing and no one was able to stop him in his noble intention to defend his territory believing in the excellence of this land. This determination has rewarded him, a precursor of a philosophy that now we are pushing that much: authenticity.
Yet, Antonio Mastroberardino wrote the policy documents of these excellent wines .
I’ve had the honor of working with him, for him and a thousand words are not enough to describe the teachings of a master at work and in life: his elegance, his perseverance, his passion.
Mastroberardino is the historical company of Campania, known throughout the world for its Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio and its production in the vineyards of the historic city of Pompeii, it is known for the excellent quality of Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and the fateful Radici Taurasi . The company, now run by his son prof. Piero Mastroberardino, have never stopped continuing to invest in the area, in the quality, until the opening of a resort with a golf course, restaurant, spa. A historic wine cellar with a huge fascination given also by the beautiful frescoes that decorate it . (www.mastroberardino.com) .
All Italy is writing about him today, the whole world will talk about him even in the next days, this is my small, heartfelt and sincere thought.
[…] 2 excellent wines: clear , color garnet , with great balance, body and intensity. I opened them at about 10 in the morning to allow good oxygenation until evening. They were absolutely perfect. The Viberti Barolo was certainly ready. It offered a wide bouquet made of vegetal notes, chocolate and just a little bit of vanilla which not covered the fruity notes but gave the softness also evident on the palate: then, round and nice, and very persistent with aftertaste of cherries. The Centrotrenta Taurasi Riserva by Mastroberardino winery is the selection of the selection: the best grapes of 1999 (generally intended for the fateful “Radici” Taurasi Riserva, the historic ‘white label’) were selected for a special production: the celebration of 130 (in Italian “centrotrenta”=one hundred thirty) years of business, a limited production that on the label shows the faces of the last 3 ‘sailors’: the least of which was Antonio Mastroberardino which unfortunately has left us recently (read the article here:http://chiarasfoodandwineguide.com/2014/01/29/407/). […] I use to write about small excellence but also large companies. I like to find small producers, the little-known wines with enormous potential but I never forget those which have made the history, the big companies that have carried the name of their country around the world, those which have recovered native varieties and without which the small ones could not exist in many cases.
