The well-known company of Montefalco area (Umbria region, Central Italy), Perticaia, started a new course when, in 2018, it was acquired by Becca family which returns after having built its fortune in Luxembourg. It starts from the old vineyards and from the solid projects that Guido Guardigli had brought to success to arrive at an expansion of the property through clonal selection. With the new ownership, the hectares raised from 16 to 34 (from 39 to 74 acres), mainly destinated to the local grapes Sagrantino (black) and Trebbiano Spoletino (white) to meet the increase in requests. In terms of wine making, the control passes Paolo Salvi.

On the occasion of the Anteprima Sagrantino event, held in June (due to restrictions from the Covid-19 health emergency) thanks to the determination of the local Consortium, I took the advantage of a vertical tasting of Trebbiano Spoletino, including both classic and cru (Del Posto) version, even if it is certainly too early to make any assessments on the new management.

TREBBIANO SPOLETINO 2020

Subtle on the nose with citrus and jasmine notes. Austere, responsive, savory. Lively and refreshing.

TREBBIANO SPOLETINO 2019

Ripe nose of white peach, pineapple, orange blossom and rosemary with a touch of white pepper demonstrating a certain layering. Refreshing acidity, medium body. The potential for ageing is good.

TREBBIANO SPOLETINO 2016

Candied citron, oyster and dried fruit outline a very defined bouquet. Quite fine and balanced on the palate. Medium finish which recalls toasted nuts.

TREBBIANO SPOLETINO “Del Posto” 2019

White flower, seaweed and dried lime. Intense and full on the palate, albeit supported by a refreshing acidity. Tasty and quite persistent.

TREBBIANO SPOLETINO “Del Posto” 2016

Rosemary, resin, beeswax and preceded by notes of stone fruits and elderflowers. Round and velvety with a particularly intriguing acid-sapid tension. In perfect shape.
