Unfortunately I have never tried them yet but I have read a lot about it and lately I have found an interview of the french sommellier Gérard Margeon, who manages the groups of 25 restaurants of the famous chef Alain Ducasse which are spread all over the world.
He has recently released an inteview to the french newspaper Le Figaro stating the chinese wines are absolutely interesting!
- CHINESE WINES POTENTIAL
Margeon states he had been in China some years ago and he had seen amazing thinks: powerful areas where bunches can get enormous, even bigger than the head of its farmes even if the grapes are not the ones we select for quality wines.
But they are investing a lot on the quality too: he had tried some of them at the last edition of the event VinExpo and he could not believe they were chinese!
- CHINESE TERROIR
China is enormous and, obviously, there are many different terroir. There is no reason to doubt about the possibility to find special cru too!
- CHINESE VARIETIES
At the momnet they are using the socalled international grapes also for marketing and communication reasons but probably in future they will also invest on indigenous varieties if and only if the regime will allow to invest in this direction.
We’ll see!!
