Lagrein is one of the most famous and prestigious indigenous (red) grape of Alto Adige area (north-east of Italy) and Tasting Lagrein Award is the competition focused it and its 3 souls: Kretzer (rosato), Classico (historical production area) e Riserva (extra ageing).

The 2019 edition has first selected the best 12 wines over more than 70 samples, 4 for each of the 3 categories, and finally rewarded the top 3, here they are:

  • Best Kretzer: Südtirol Lagrein Kretzer 2018 by Schmid Oberrautner
  • Best Lagrein Classico: Südtirol Lagrein Rubeno 2018 by Kellerei Andrian
  • Best Lagrein Riserva: Südtirol Lagrein Riserva Taber 2017 by Kellerei Bozen.

The award ceremony has been held at Fiera di Bolzano, on the occasion of the 16th edition of Autochtona, the forum on the Italian indigenous wines.

The competition is organized in collaboration with Consorzio Vini Alto Adige. The judging panel: the journalists Pierluigi Gorgoni, coordinator of the judging panel and Alessandro Franceschini, award secretary, in collaboration with Angelo Carrillo (Quotidiano Alto Adige), Alessio Turazza (Gambero Rosso), Giorgio Cotti (enotecario e socio Vinarius), Han Sjakes (wino.sjakes.com, Entree Magazine), Simone Loguercio (Italy Best Sommelier 2018), Matteo Pessina (Calicivivi).
