I have recently read about the trend of the spirits’ market. It is treated almost as a phenomenon in recent years thanks to growing numbers that have not stopped even with the Covid-19 emergency. It is already well known in UK and USA but now the growth is also evident in Italy. And gin seems to remain the main character with double-digit growth in both value and volume and this has also stimulated the birth of new and micro distilleries.

But, as often happens, this can also encourage and support the more traditional products such as the Italian grappa (grape-based pomace spirit) which is still too often underestimated on foreign markets because it is considered aromatically weaker than other categories of spirits. Our productions, however, tell a very different reality with captivating products also coming from lesser known areas. This how I recalled a comparison with the Istituto Tutela Grappa del Trentino (Northern Italy) which has proven its excellence thanks to a tasting of “raw” grappas (not finished yet), from Pinot Noir grapes to Chardonnay, Traminer or Teroldego; which made the idea of an extraordinary expressiveness potential even better. From the elegance of Pinot Noir to the finesse of Chardonnay; from the exuberance of the Traminer to the rustic Teroldego, each expressed itself with a firm and distinctive character.

A beautiful test, a great all-Italian confirmation.
