It is the Carapace itself, an extraordinary work by Arnaldo Pomodoro and luster for the entire territory, that pays homage to time.

A work, the cellar of the Umbrian estate of the notorious Lunelli group, that is inspired by the iconic wine of the Montefalco area in Umbria region, Central Italy: Sagrantino which uses time as its best ally. The age of the vines to harvest fully expressive fruits, the time needed in the cellar in search of the perfect balance, time also in terms of “weather” itself which makes things even more complicated in case of wines of great temperament. The time that a wine like Sagrantino needs in order to avoid to become too harsh and difficult by expressing, on the contrary, that potential too often hidden in the shadow of a communication that is excessively concentrated on its tannic structure. An indisputable trait which can be well integrated into a much more complex framework and with potential for pleasure to be explored.

The Carapace, typical of the tortoises and their slowness, therefore sublimates its essence and it is the Carapace the inspiration of the last label of Tenuta Castelbuono winery. “Carapace lunga attesa” Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2015, first edition in only 4,000 bottles, is a 7-year-old Sagrantino curated by their winemaker Luca D’Attoma who, in addition to a longer aging, has gone thought the use of different processes on separate masses for a classy product.

100% Sagrantino grapes, this local black variety, from a single 30-year-old vineyard, grapes are picked in 3 times. Fermentation involves 3 different steps due to the passage of the separate masses respectively in stainless steel, wooden vats and terracotta amphorae. The three masses are then blended before the maturation in large wooden casks for at least 3 years plus bottle ageing.

Opulent in its balance, full and structured but, at once, smooth and pleasant, a wine of elegant power.
