Paul Balke’s initiative, now at its fourth edition, is undertaken in order to spread this top red from Irpinia wine area, inlnad of Campania (Southern Italy) among international journalists and seems to always be appreciated.
Thanks to the hospitality of the municipalities of Taurasi, Paternopoli, Castelfranci, Montemarano and about 50 local wineries, a group of international journalists have been recently welcomed to discover the legendary red wine from Campania: Taurasi DOCG and the territory where it is produced.
Technical tastings were held at the beautiful Castello Marchionale in Taurasi combined with tours of the territory of Taurasi, Paternopoli, Castelfranci and Montemarano also to learn more about the producers and the local food and traditions.
The guests, coming from the United States, Poland, Lithuania, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Italy, were: Robin Kick MW from Switzerland, Kristy Wenz and Matthew Horkey, Mariusz Kapczynski from Poland, Jolanta Smiciene from Lithuania and Alessandra Piubello, contributor for several International magazines. All were guided by the Dutch journalist Paul Balke, active for years in the promotion of the Taurasi DOCG wine as one of the most prestigious wines of Italy, together with the Barolo DOCG and the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.
All the group agreed on that based on the quality of all wines. The only recognized criticality was communication because it is still not well-known enough despite the constant interest in Italian wines.
